Silver thing with yellow fins. Look it up.

Did you cast net it? Fresh or salt?

That is a Bairdiella chrysoura or common name, "Silver perch". It is a scianedae spp./member of the drum family. We catch them all over the place in our trawls, small and big seines.

Butterfish is Northern Gulf of Mexico vernacular for the species Lei. xanthurus or common name, "Spot", also a scianedae spp.

Hope that helps.

Ok, ok----we call them "Bee-cry" for short. Have some other interesting nicknames for fish. A few I regretfully cannot post.

We call

Lizardfish- "Donkey fish".

Redfish- "Redbird".

Skipjack- "YikYak".

Pinfish- "Rambo"

We call them "yellow tails" up here and they are plentiful. They steal more bait than about anything else when fishing with shrimp.

Oh, and they are good on the table.
