Biscayne Bay Firsts

Post by patternw »

Today was a day of firsts for me - an amazing day on the water out of Deering Bay.

Hit it at first of the incoming. Ladyfish were breaking the water, so I tossed my Top Dog at them and hooked into a bunch. Good size fish, and quite a fun fight. Went to check out a place to the north near Gables by the Sea that I heard about, but it just turned into a long paddle as the only fish I saw were mullet. Came back to Deering at the last of the incoming and really got to work - 2 tarpon (30# appx), more ladyfish, a small snook, and a HUGE trout (which was eaten in half by what must be the resident bull shark right next to the boat).

All in all, I caught my first ladyfish, tarpon, and snook ever - on the same lure, an Olive Green Rapala X-Rap Suspending Twitchbait (which I lost to the last ladyfish of the day, again probably eaten off by the shark).
