This weathered oil was encountered in the Mississippi Sound near Biloxi on August 9. Scientific sampling revealed the presence of three of the primary ingredients of the Corexit dispersant applied to oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Federal officials report that no dispersants have been used since July 19, and have maintained throughout the spill that none of the chemicals were used in Alabama or Mississippi state waters.

I'm betting there are lake sized puddles of Oil just rolling around in the deep dark crevacies of the Gulf waiting for an opportunity to surface so day when we're not looking.

That plus enforce the existing regulations and exercise the oversight that, if enforced, would have prevented the BP oil spill.
Very true and a causionarey tale for those that somehow seem to think all government regulations are bad and that companies in the pursuit of profits will automatically do the right thing. Many regulations are unfortunately an after the horse got out of the barn attempt to to close the door. Well intentioned but sometimes poorly executed. Add to that the influence of rich and powerfully lobbiests while the regulations are being written and you have a real crapshoot that the medicine will not be worse than the sickness.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.
In the case of BP, the reasonable regs were already in place. Oversight is mandated. However oversight was not done and regs were not enforced.
We do not need more regs in most cases. More regs is a knee jerk reaction in this case.
Regs are important. Too many times we've been shown that people won't 'do the right thing'. But there is also a responsibility of govt to enforce the regs in place instead of piling on more for a good "I care" campaign speech.
Plus there are many stupid regs out there that do nothing but drive up compliance costs (refer back to the "I care" speech) and, at the end of the line, drive up consumer costs. Those regs need to be wiped off the books.
