Even though the weather was really bad and the tournament director surely contemplated rescheduling, the event took place anyway. All of the competitors battled high winds, high seas, and unexpected current directions. My strategy was to head for deep water (200ft-350ft) in hopes of catching some dolphin to win the Calcutta, and vertical jigging some big amberjack or blackfin tuna to make a high weight. That decision ended some what in failure. There were no big AJs on the reefs that I could find and no tuna either, there were some dolphin ( a 30" dolphin to be exact) though that helped me win the Dolphin Calcutta. The biggest jack I caught was a 21" Almaco, followed by a 16" Almaco, neither big enough for much weight. The top 4 spots were all taken by anglers that stayed in less than 200 ft of water and caught kingfish, one of them a massive example. For those of you that did not see my other post I will re-post the pictures. Some of these pictures are mine some came from the EKFT website. I had a bad experience with a boater and will post that picture later.
