I would assume the water was warm enough for it to tolerate while heading north. If it was too cold, I guess it would have stopped. Now, when the temperature starts to drop, then you would think it would instictively start heading back down.
Migration comes to mind. Why do we always think we have to intervine? I doubt this was the first manatee to ever go to Memphis.
Or, maybe he just wanted to take a vacation.
