YES, that's the trouble! Too much bottled up energy due to the cold weather and folks not getting outside! 8)

By the way, we who have responded with comments about X pages on the stake out pole are about to role this thread over to FOUR pages!

Does this make it 4 pages?

Thanks for all the details and pictures, after all, I'm retired Army!

Now if someone can covert this whole thing to a comic book, we'll have a manual for the Marines!

4 pages huh... I'll see if I can help... I was out yesterday and my cheapo PVC stake out pole has made it through 3 outings and has been AWESOME... I don't know about y'all but we have pluff mud here and it gets stuck in the tube and while this adds weight to the pole and helps it stick my wife has threatened to make me sleep in the garage if I stink it up with that mud again... any ideas on how to seal up the end to keep the stinky out of it???

 is it just me or did that not come out right?

"..... any ideas on how to seal up the end to keep the stinky out of it??? ..."

I inserted a broom handle in the PVC and used some Gorilla glue. Then I cut the end at about a 45° angle. So mud will not get packed into mine. On the other hand, my state out pole now weighs quite a bit, and I'm pretty sure it will not float.

One thing that might work is not putting a broom handle in the entire PVC, but just the bottom 6 inches or so, then cutting it off at an angle. That was you will have weight and a "plug" at the end that goes into the mud. You might also do the same at the top, but using only 2-3 inches of broom handle. Then you'd have the rest of the PVC hollow, so it ought to be light enough to float.

I'm going to have to rig up something with a pool noodle or whatever to keep mine from sinking..................

Kayaker Guy you are wise sage and I thank you for your insight... really great idea! I am gonna try and broom handle idea... Dang now I "HAVE" to go to lowes and buy more PVC... I am sure the wife will understand  I was thinking about heating and end up and pinching it closed then trimming it but I am not sure how that would work... I think the broom handle would keep the shape and the little bit of weight would help it seat itelf in the mud...

Are we up to 4 pages yet???

Probably a dumb question but wouldn't a floating stake-out pole make it more difficult to keep underwater in the mud? Besides, if you keep it tethered why even bother?

Let's see, how to store the stake out pole, how to attach the stake out pole when not being stored, using it in a scupper hole or on the anchor trolley, which side to store the pole on, what price constitutes a "cheap" stake out pole, etc, etc. The discussion could be endless. Five pages is much too conservative.

Anybody have plans for a stake out pole storage rack? Preferably with illustrations?
