Truck Rack

Post by GILs_GONE_WILD »

I'm pulling a travel trailer to the Keys so that rules out using my Bed Extender to transport the kayaks.

I am in need of a single bar/rack for the top of my truck ... Yakima, Thule, etc.

Who has these locally? Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I have the same problem with my camper. Here are two pictures of my set up for the canoe and bikes(pat pend  ).

A welding shop did the hitch insert for $90 and the 2 inch square tubing costs about $10.

That setup actually crossed my mind for the back. (I have a welder, torches, grinder, etc, etc, )

What do you do for the top of your truck? Factory rack? Homemade?

I have canoe. So I just put cushions under the gunwals and throw a strp over the hull to two little holes on the front of the bed.

Make sure you strp the back to the t-bar on the upright. On my trip to Georgia, the canoe wanted to walk backwards. If you wrap the strap all the way around the hull and t-bar, you should be secure.

I just got back from the Keys & faced the same situation. I found a Yakima Q-tower rack on ebay for $106. I then bought the clips to adapt it to my truck. Worked great!!
