What Shrimp Lure Do You Use?

Post by Erick »

Time for some lure related polls...this is all market research that I am doing...so I hope you will participate.

Going to go through some of the various types of lures, then maybe some branding polls, but I will try to spread them out so that I dont have too many going at one time.

Thanks for your responses in advance. And in this case...which one do you use most often.

And I will not be putting Gulp for any of the answers. So outside of Gulp.

Where's the "none" choice?

I'm not patient enough to fish artificial shrimp.

I am with Rik, I rarely if ever use an artificial shrimp.

DOA

Post by tbray »

I voted DOA- but really have had limited success (mostly trout and an occasional beach snook)....as i mentioned in prior post. Havent given up on em yet.

I have tried other shrimp imitations but no where near as much as DOA

I'm with Rik & Toddle.... don't keep one in my tackle box. TOO SLOW for me! I rather have a REAL shrimp on the end of my hook before going with the fake stuff.

Rik taught me to fish and he never taught me how to use one so I can't play in the poll either.

DOA and Tsunami

The DOA I have used the longest. I did finally use the Tsunami shrimp about two weeks ago and caught snook and trout on it.

I always keep them with me but only use them in situations where I know the fish are on the lookout for a shrimp. This is often in the nighttime scenario.

I never was a huge believer until I used the lure exclusively one night with Dirty Dave. But yes, I use artificial shrimp regularly.

Tsumani. The DOA's were my go-to for a long time, but the hooks are junk. Plus, you catch one fish it pretty much destroys the lure. The Tsunami's have better/bigger hooks, and to me, have a more natural action.

I get $75 every time I participate in any market research. But, for you Erick, I will forego the fee.

I have only used DOA near clear, but like some of the others, I find them nap-inducing to use. The last time I used them, though, I had great success trolling one from a rear rodholder.

To cross reference this with the "Hooks" discussion on another topic. I found a good shrimp imitation that was made I think in North Carolina and I really liked the jighead but the hooks were an atrocity. The things would be rusting during the first day of use. By the next morning the points were so dull it was worthless.

It's a shame because the jig head design was pretty good and it had a couple of wires that looked acted as a weed guard. If they made that jig head with a better hook, I'd carry that with me all the time too.

hooking

Post by tbray »

do you all switch the hook around on the shrimp imitations? up and through the tail so it jumps backward? Or do you leave it as is out of the package?

It's molded in on the Tsunami - which is one of the reasons I like it. I spend more time fishing than adjusting the bait back on the hook.

I own DOAs in every color and weight, but other than one very cold day at Perico, have never used them much. No patience.
