Spincasters vs Baitcasters

After seeing a comment in another post I thought I would put this up for discussion rather than de-rail the other post.

I only use spinning equipment. I know all the arguements for baitcasters. They are probably all true.

I'm an old fart and I'm not gonna change.

In the right hands, conventional gear no question. There's a reason almost all professional bass fisherman use conventional reels for just about everything other than drop-shotting and the occasional ultralight smallmouth rig.

BTW,

I assume Toddddd meant spinning reels and not what is more traditionally referred to as a spincaster:

Correct Jay.

And I am not talking bass fishing. I am referring to saltwater flats fishing.

Baitcasters...I use both, Your poll should only be for those that know how to use a baitcaster (If they were easy everybody would be useing one)
Accuracy, distance, and ergo's for working a bait are all there. Plus the drag is way easier to operate while fighting a fish (Should the need arise)
Bass fishermen have known this for years.

Depends on the situation, but on a normal day I carry 3 baitcasters and one spinning rod.

I like the flat trajectory & pinpoint accuracy of a baitcaster, but also appreciate the screaming drag of a spinning reel.

Casting distance is everyting for me so I use spinning gear. Ive heard many say they can out cast me with a baitcaster but have yet to see it.

I have wondered that for a little while, is it because of the speed you can work a lure??

Spinners. I won't even attempt a baitcaster. I'd hate to be mistaken for a bass fisherman. :)

Both have their applications. It's a lot easier to skip a lure under a mangrove with a spinning outfit, but overall, I prefer baitcasters for all but jiggin'.
