Happy birthday to my nephew Garrett

Post by LivelyBaits »

The G Man is a big time fisherman and now that he's 9 years old he is going to be getting his own kayak (For Christmas)

Yesterday, for his birthday I gave him a spinning rod and reel and I put him in front of the Native. Stu and his friend Norris were in kayaks, and Sledford came along and supplied an extra boat for the group.

Zam!

Garrett hooked up to this redfish

He then caught a few trout after that. Here he is fighting a trout:

I moved him over to a deep hole in the middle of a grassflat and he made a cast into there and the rod doubled over and the fish jumped. Snook! He started yelling and got really excited. I talked him through the battle and he was able to keep the snook on the line.
Unforunately Uncle Neil splashed the camera lens before the photo

We moved up the flat to another redfish area and he connected with his new rod and reel AGAIN. I did an action shot of the red hooked up. Caught the swirl in the water with this one

To end the day off , we hit another spot that is notorious for flounder. This one was 23 inches, one of four that we caught off that hole

It was a fun day. As usual we had to drag him off the water! Sam hit a school of large trout but otherwise Garrett caught all the significant fish of the day.

Happy birthday Gman! That's his rod and reel off to his right in the last picture.

There is no doubt, I'm looking forward to a new camera in early 2008.

It was his first snook, which I failed to mention. And his first Slam.
The snook made some hard runs but he handled it great.

Snookfinatic told me to write down everything he said during the day. The kid really does say some interesting things.

There were a couple of guys on a corner fishing from the shore and they got their lines crossing. We were just drifting by and Garrett said "It looks like you guys are having some problems."

 This from the same kid on Father's Day who admired CB's new GPS and said-
"You said your wife gave that to you? Wow, you know if she dies now, at least you got that from her first."

Four grown men standing there trying not to laugh.

Sorry about the oversized photos. I'll resize them and switch them out tonight. I hate it when you have to scroll around to read what people are posting.

Happy Birthday to Garrett ...

the version of the story that I recall hearing went something like: Craig said "my wife would kill me if I bought a $400 GPS" ... Garrett replied something to the effect of "well, if you'd kill her first, then you can go get the $400 GPS ...

ahhh, good times - good times ...

I may have to have Craig and the Finatic piece it together. He's not afraid to say whatever's on his mind.

Looks like he had a really great time and what a Flounder!
What a very lucky young man to have an Uncle like you Neil.
His smile say's all that needs to be said!!!

Also make sure you have the camera ready to capture the look on his face when he notices what under the tree on December 25th.
I believe all of us would like to see the expression on his face.
