Dual purpose rod

Post by noles »

This is a dual purpose rod built on a 2-piece St. Croix SCIII blank. It's a 7' 8wt rod or a 7'6" spinning
rod. Takes a couple of seconds to go from one or the other.

Very cool concept :!:

What set of guides did you use?
I imagine you could do the same thing to a little longer rod and end up with an Everson style spinner?

My first custom rod was a 7', 8wt built on the same blank. I used standard fly rod guides. How do the spinning guides work in fly rod mode.

The stripper guides are single foot v-frame Fuji Alconites and the running guides are single foot fuji alconite fly guides. There's nothing special
about Everson's rods (pac-bay components and harloy guides on a 8' blank).

Bob, I don't use snake guides on my fly rods at all. I'm a big fan of ceramic guides on a fly rod; its far superior than a piece of plated metal. The single foot
Fuji Alconites you see on spinning rods are actually built for use on fly rods but most fly rods still utilize snakes over ceramic for not other reason than it's what
people are use to seeing on a fly rod (tradition).
