Hey Noles, on the spectactulous grip

Post by brokenarrowjbe »

Did you set it up for kayak fishing? I am looking at split grips and was going to try the abalone inlay between the butt and first foregrip. I have some concerns about the spacing and the use of enough heat to bend the abalone without torching the cork. I was thinking the reel should sit about 7 -8 inches from the base. Thanks for your help, John

IMO, using the heat method on abalone isn't the right approach. I suggest a vinegar soak. You will have considerably better results AND fewer worries.

Do you use boiling vinegar? How long of a soak? Thanks, John
