This may seem kind of silly

Post by Ryanrocksfender »

So alot of the time due to school and work i dont have time to load up the yak and i get stuck being a shore bound angler  . I have been thinking of spicing up this time spent fishing by getting a fly rod and trying my hand at that. I heard fishing for lady fish and small jacks can be an absolute blast on a fly rod! I would mainly be wading flats and fishing from seawalls, jettys, etc. Does anyone have insight on what weight gear i would need and where to start?

Thanks!

Go no lighter than a 6 and no heavier than an eight. Just my 2¢

I would say the standard size for inshore salt is an 8wt. This should be your first rod since it will let you cast bigger flies in the wind and still have enough flex to enjoy smaller fish. If you decide you like it, you could pick up a 6wt later.
