New Small Stream Rod

Post by Snook712 »

Just finished a build of a new small stream rod. Lamiglas 7' 3wt. "Honey" blank, single foot snake guides, burled rosewood reel seat. This was my first experience using ProKote rod finish instead of Flex Coat. I liked working with it but it does take a lot longer to cure. Also the first time using ProWrap instead of Gudebrod thread. I like the Prowrap but it seems slicker than what I am used to and took a while to get used to.

Nice looking rod. I'm not a fan of slower action fiberglass and bamboo rods, but that should work very well on small streams. I have used one spool of ProWrap and, like you, found it to be a bit slicker than Gudebrod and a little harder to work with. Did you use the regular nylon or the color fast?

I couldn't tell from the pictures. Is the light band within the wraps a lighter color thread or a loose open wrap?

I used the regular thread and not the ncp. The lighter bands are gold thread wrapped with the brown in a spiral.
