When you build a rod do you just expoy the wrap or the entire rod

Only the wrap. The blank should be fine, as is. Using epoxy on the entire rod will only add weight with no benefit. In fact, it could lead to future problems. Also, make sure you are using epoxy that is designed as a finish for wraps (Flex Coat, Threadmaster, Pro Kote, etc). Hardware store epoxy will not work.

so how do some rods seem to have that epoxy look the entire length of the rod? is there something else you can put on the blank or do some of them just come that way?

Blanks come either sanded graphite (no finish) or painted at the factory (gloss finish). The blank can be painted with either a urethane or auto type paint, but epoxy is generally to soft and to thick to paint the entire blank.

There are varnishes availible if you want to coat the entire rod. UB40 is one that has worked well for me. If I can help let me know. You can reach me at [email protected]
