Your bucket list

Post by DaveR »

While we happen to be lucky enough to live in a world class fishing destination, I wonder what you folks have in the back of your mind for that one "I gotta do that before I die" fishing experience.
That if I had six months to live kinda thing. No, I ain't sick. Just wondering.

Yes. Oh wait, that wasnt a question.

Christmas Island. A few hours or so straight south of the Big Island.

I've done the bonefish thing at Wake Island, Marlin at Kwajellian Atoll, Giant Jacks in Hawaii, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi in Hawaii. I just want to do one more trip to the Pacific before I go.

A swordfish and spearfish to complete my Royal Billfish Slam.

Big musky.

Alaska. Not exactly sure what I would fish for there but that is a place I have always wanted to visit.

Brown trout and rainbow trout in New Zealand. Alaska would be a close second but I've already done that.

Daver. This is the only fishing trip on that list I keep of things to do one day. A few years ago I almost took a job guiding with the outfitter who made the following video. I would have been posted in Mozambique on the Zambezi River guiding tiger fish to start. Season 2 or 3 would have found me on a tiny atoll in the Indian Ocean fishing for these things. I chose to take a different route and go back to school. A decidedly longer path to the tiny atoll in the Indian Ocean but no doubt the wiser choice. Anyway, I have recently begun gearing up for this trip. I hope to make it in the next few seasons, which we are currently in the late stages of. Someone, somewhere, probably got spooled by one of these big bastards in the last 12 hours.

They will absolutely destroy your tibor gulfstream or your abel super 12. Don't even bring them, it will only lead to heartbreak. (Stradics don't seem that expensive anymore)

The fishing.

Other species I would like to try for while there. Many say that the bloke on the bottom may be the most difficult fish to catch on fly. I really want to get my mitts on one. Keep working on that strip set my friend!

Fuck me, I wish someone would have gotten me hooked on drugs instead of fishing. It would have been a whole hell of a lot cheaper.
