Format- Each angler will be given 2 Nut's Hookers custom bucktail jigs: one 1/4 oz. brown jig, and one 1/8 oz. white jig. You are not allowed to bring any other lures or hooks, jigheads, popping corks, split shots, etc. with you. If we find any lures on your kayak other then the lures provided you will be disqualified. You may bring a maximum of 2 fishing rods with you. The use of scents like Procure or Gulp juice is not allowed.
Scoring- You can turn in 2 redfish for scoring, and a third red in the case of a tie. Each red will get you 5 points, plus 1 point per spot. Only the number of spots on the photographed side of the fish will count. All fish must be photographed in the same manner on your measuring board. (ie- the fish's nose in the bottom left corner of the measuring device in every picture) If there is a tie, a third red plus the spots points will serve as the tie breaker. Length of the biggest red breaks any ties after that.

Let see, should i sign up for this event. What are the facts
1. I don't think I have ever fished with a bucktial jig in my life.
2. This launch area is the farthest from where I live in Sarasota of all the challenge launch sites.
3. Every time I have fished here I have done terrible.
Oh hell I am in.

Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

OKay I told him to sign up on here! Also, for measuring fish. I see alot of photos on here with the measuring stick made of boards, are the the kind you need? Or does any measuring stick work for tournaments?

I am always surprised to hear that. The bucktail jig has been around for, well....., ever. My first tarpon, bonefish, redfish and permit were all caught on bucktail jigs. I would venture to guess that more fish have been caught on bucktail jigs then any other type of artificial lure. I'm surprised I don't use them more often since they do catch fish. I always have several in my tackle box.Manning wrote:1. I don't think I have ever fished with a bucktail jig in my life.
The first time we used bucktail jigs was the the event where the most fish were caught in the 10 years of doing these tourneys. So many fish were caught that guys were bringing jigs back to the Pic n' Sip without any bucktail left on them. Lots of groaning at the sign in - "bucktails? Are you kidding me?" - but lots of "Man, I caught a ton of fish today!" at the Pic n' Sip.

Re: PFCS #5- Seeing Spots in UTB - Presented by Nut's Hooker
Thought I might get a comment like what Rik wrote above when I made the comment about bucktial jigs. I realize they are a basic go to lure for many fisherman, but when I started saltwater fishing 5 or 6 years ago I just got into plastics and hard baits. For a type of lure that is supposed to work so well they are not all that plentiful at my local tackle store. I stopped by recently and they had a few kinds of pompano jigs, but no other bucktails. Can anyone give me a good source in the Sarasota area?
