2500 vs 3000 Size Spinning Reels

Post by MLB01 »

Any advantage or disadvantage of a 2500 vs 3000 reel size. Both sizes are similar in wt, obviously more line capacity with deeper spool. Don't know if greater line capacity is that big of an advantage if targeting inshore species. Some say better handle on the 3000 size, T handle vs barrel handle on the 2500.

Looking at the Shimano Symetre.

I have 3 of the Shimano Symetre reels. Two older ones and one of the new style. Funny thing is the old ones say that they are 2500 series and the new one says it is a 3000 series. In reality they are all the same size. At any rate I would highly recommend this reel. A great value at the price point.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

I like the extra line capacity, specifically, the handle type does not phase me...

I fish mainly flats for Bonefish and they burn off a lot of line, to the backing, many times on the 1st and second run, in 2' of water you have to let them run not much you can do to put extra pressure on them like you can many fish in deeper water.

Drag ratings are 11lb on the 2500 and 15lb on the 3000 assuming your looking at the FL series.
