I use broken fishing rods. I cut the eyes off, drill a hole in the but, run 500 chord through the hole, and done
it allows some extra shock protection, and the thin tip section penetrates very very deep. and has never become un-stuck
and I have 2 or 3 broken rods laying arund, but the 1st one is still going strong
free, too

I know the facts on this one - keep RIGID things out of scupper holes. PVC is perfect - embrace the flex, because it won't sink your boat.

i use a old pool cleaning pole, cut down a piece of 1/2" pvc with a angle cut on the end and then slid it inside the pool pole and screwed it in place works like a charm
