The Old Man and the Sea and the Fishing Encyclopedia by Al McClane. (I was fortunate to have McClane as neighbor for several years when I was growing up. Too bad I didn't let him teach me how to fly fish. At the time, I thought it was a silly fresh water stream sort of thing. Dumb!)

1. The Old Man and the Boy, Robert Ruark. (Not strictly a fishing book, a great true tale of a boy growing up in the Carolina Low Country, hunting and fishing with his grandfather).

2. The Longest Silence, Tom McGuane - for us fly fishermen.
3. A River Runs Through It
4. Gierach's books.

Non-fiction/lit
1. Fly Fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Harry Murray

Crunch and Des by Philip Wylie. Read some at http://www.amazon.com/Crunch-Classic-St ... 1558210806 It's a treasure and a beautiful book to own- sport fishing from another time.

The Book of Tarpon by A. W. Dimock. A classic with amazing photos for the time. I could kick myself for not owning this book when it was affordable. Read it online at http://www.archive.org/stream/bookoftar ... 7/mode/2up

Ninety-two in the Shade by Thomas McGuane.

In the Slick of the Cricket by Russell Drum. Read some at http://www.amazon.com/Slick-Cricket-Tru ... 0140274359

The Heat Islands by Randy Wayne White- 'cause it's about cheating in tarpon tournaments and it's about where I live.

The Living Dock by Jack Rudloe http://www.gulfspecimen.org/LivingDock.htm Try to find the most recent edition as Rudloe has included the fantastic paintings and drawings by Walter Inglis Anderson http://walteringlisanderson.com/
