Visiting my folks at West Palm Beach, on Sunday I went to Green Cay and Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
It's somewhat off the map, but very popular with photographers, birders, and walkers. Jogging and running is not permitted.
If you take a camera you can get very close to the wildlife (they are very much used to human interaction). I didn't take a tripod, but should have. I also took a variety of photos laying down (just avoid the bird poop) - you'll find better shots through the rails versus straight down. Go early for the best shots and wildlie interaction. Thanks to Emily it was somewhat overcast and drizzly, but it made for OK conditions.
If you are on the East Coast it's well worth the price of admission (free). From the West Coast it could be somewhat a long drive, but I was in the neighborhood.
I'm still struggling with humidity so some of the photos are soft.
All photos were with a Canon T2i and 18-135mm. If I had to chose a lens I would go with something from 200-600mm. L Series would be very cool - perhaps one day I'll rent one.
The last two shots I had the right idea, but poor implementation.
