If you were told to put away all your other RedFish weapons and use only a Gold Spoon, you can use any brand or size but only gold colored spoons:

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
For quantity the above, for less quantity but quality Aquadream 3/8 oz.
Easy enough to use - straight retrieve. Occasionally I give it an extra pop.
Speaking of...I'll be really interested to see how the next PFTS goes - curious to see if all the broken hook issues are done with. There should be enough anglers and lures to get a feel for if it's gone for good. Hopefully so.

So one spoon catches more and the other one catches bigger?jbdba01 wrote:For quantity the above, for less quantity but quality Aquadream 3/8 oz.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
OK, I'm on board with the Johnson, it's what I use, and have success with. But the finish on mine don't last very long. Is there something I'm not doing that would help solve that problem?
Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
In general yes that has been my experience...seldom catch trout on that big spoon, catch plenty on that smaller one. Try it on a known hole.Todd wrote:So one spoon catches more and the other one catches bigger?jbdba01 wrote:For quantity the above, for less quantity but quality Aquadream 3/8 oz.

Reds tear up both.
Regarding the finish on the Johnson...the more it wears the better it seems to work. I like it when it's almost bronze with all sorts of scratches. I think Wonderboy had one last about 18 months - course we swapped out the treble hook several times.

That sounds like the sprite not the silver minnow, which introduces a 3rd spoon into the discussion.jbdba01 wrote: I think Wonderboy had one last about 18 months - course we swapped out the treble hook several times.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
Lets add a fourth spoon in the mix.
If my target species is Reds only the Reflecto bronze spoon is awesome. The Reds will smash this wobbly dude. Check em out.
Maybe I should just be quiet. Sometimes I talk too much.
Seriously this is a tough, long lasting, fish caatching spoon.
As for the j
Johnson spoon, or any spoon. Wash it in sweet water and it will not tarnish. It will scratch tho due to it's smooth finish.
If it does'nt, your not fishing it right. JMHO of course.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
I'm with Todd and others on this one.
Johnson 1/4 oz in gold.
I have been using the 1/2 oz a little bit lately during higher tides, or for clients who are having difficulty casting and doing pretty well also.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
I fished the Johnson for years and have enjoyed some success with it....but NOTHING compares to the success I have enjoyed with the Aquadream.... and since Capt. Mike did the upgrade on the hook, it's even better. I concur with JB...more quality catches. It is one of my go-to lures, right after the bone spook.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?
I just got the Aquadream. Gator Trout love it as do Reds. I used to use the Johnson Silver Minnow in both Silver and Gold. As for the tarnish, I have always sprayed them with two coats of clear Lacquer. It keeps the shine and they won't tarnish. Learned that Trick back in the 50s. Wait 24 hours between coats and before use. Tape the hook so it stays without lacquer, tho.
